It's actually a funny story

In 2016, we met at St. Bonaventure's freshman orientation. He was the only person that stuck in my mind enough to tell my parents about. Definitely the Jersey accent. We went out often with mutual friends, but then Eamonn began to read and respond to my columns in the student magazine. I was just happy someone was reading. We both ran for the same student government position that year and... well, best woman wins. Eamonn spent that summer in Buffalo playing Rugby and that's when we began dating. I hated country music and he wasn't sure he loved Buffalo, so we met in the middle and called it official at a country concert there. He met my family and hometown friends and we went back to school. The "best 4 years of our lives" were amplified by our constant laughter. Imagine a kid sitting next to you in astronomy, seriously asking the professor things like "Dr. P, is gravity the force responsible for people falling in love?" Counting my stars, we were soon taking more 8-hour bus trips to Buffalo and Jersey City than I could count. He introduced me to his family and hometown friends at Lake Wallkill where he spent every summer growing up. I learned later that no one gets invited to the lake unless it's somewhat serious. We went back every summer after. In 2019, we graduated from St. Bonaventure together with our families. I need to mention he ended up winning back that student government position, too. We both did a lot. We continued to do a lot. After all, we are a lot. Two weeks after graduating, Eamonn moved to Atlanta to play professional rugby while I moved to New York City to pursue a career in advertising. That turned into 4 years of flights between NYC & ATL for me and 13 hour drives home for him. In those years we saw a pandemic, 2 states, a mullet, bangs, multiple apartments, multiple boroughs, weddings, speedos and many trips back home. Then one drive was the last, Eamonn signed with New York's professional rugby team, and I finally got to cheer him on at home. I wasn't set on moving to Jersey and he wasn't set on Brooklyn, so we met in the middle again and got our first apartment together in Hoboken. On a sunny Saturday morning in August 2024, he convinced me that there was a family of bears to see roaming the lake. We had a notebook we kept to write secrets to one another. He handed it to me and the entry said "There is no bear" and here we are. We can't wait to celebrate with you back where it all began. See you soon!
