Tien and Michael met each other through work at East Jefferson General Hospital (EJGH) in April of 2020. He was a full-time pharmacist at the company, having worked there for roughly 8 months at the time; she had just started as a PRN pharmacist, having recently moved to the New Orleans area from Dallas. During her first month of training at EJGH, Michael seldomly had the chance to speak to Tien. However, he was eventually tasked with training her in the IV sterile compounding room, where they were finally able to really get to know one another. When it came to conversation, they were polar opposites; Tien was a very shy, quiet girl, and Michael talked way too much. Through their discussions, however, they realized that they shared a lot more in common than initially thought, and Michael understood that he had to ask Tien if she would be interested in going on a date. Pulling up the courage to ask Tien out was a difficult task not due to fear of rejection, but rather due to fear of losing a potential friend. Despite this, he still asked her out as she was just about to go home from EJGH after a long day of work.... she said "no.” She told him she was not ready for a relationship. This was not unexpected, and Michael was happy he got to know Tien and work with her, regardless. However, Michael’s humor and sincerity made an impression on Tien. It did not take long before she realized his feelings for her were mutual. They spent the next several weeks messaging and calling each other almost nonstop, and their relationship blossomed into so much more than just an exchange of words between friends. Despite these two lovers originating from very different cultural backgrounds, Tien and Michael discovered that they share so much in common. After 2 years of dating, Michael proposed to Tien at Epcot center in Disney World, and she said, "yes."
