Max was never one to celebrate his birthday, but he was in a very serious relationship with someone who had the complete opposite attitude, someone who loved celebrating birthdays. Whether it was with a homemade cake, a nice dinner out, or a small party, Tien loved birthdays. Every June, Tien would ask Max what he wanted to do for his birthday and for five birthdays, the answer was more or less the same. "Nothing!" This never failed to stress Tien out, she wanted every birthday to feel special for Max. In 2025, with June approaching Tien began to ask Max yet again what he wanted to do to celebrate turning 27, knowing that his answer could very well be the dreaded "Nothing!". But, to her surprise, Max actually wanted to do something!!! He posed a plan of spending the day in Boston and kicking off his birthday with a picnic in the park. Tien was so blinded by her excitement that her love of birthdays could finally be rubbing off on Max that she didn't notice anything weird. In the days leading up to Max's birthday the weather predictions would shift between rain and sunshine. Max worried a lot about the weather, but again, Tien didn't notice anything weird. She was so focused on being nonchalant, for fear that Max would change his mind and abandon his birthday plans. The day came and they picked up their favorite sandwiches from Randall's and with Tien behind the wheel, they set off for the Boston Commons. Once parked near the Commons, Tien realized she left the picnic blanket back in Ludlow!! They rushed into a CVS and were able to find a shower curtain that served as their 'picnic blanket'. Finally, they picked a spot under a tree by the pond and had their lunch. Sneaky Max set up Tien's phone, under the guise of taking a nice photo together, but then started to propose. Tien hates to admit how long it took her to realize what was happening. It wasn’t until near the end of Max’s proposal that she finally understood. She said yes (obviously) and they spent the rest of the day in Boston full of love and happiness. Tien did unfortunately find out that her love for birthdays was NOT rubbing off on Max. He was just being sneaky.
