Some love stories begin in the most unexpected places. Ours started in a Houston gym, thanks to one very bold friend. It all began when my friend, shoutout Lindsey, spotted a handsome stranger lifting weights and instantly decided he was “my type.” Without hesitation, she walked right up to him while he was bench pressing and told him about me. Romario, who was only in Houston for a short work trip and had attended that gym just once, probably never thought a stranger would begin matchmaking mid-workout. Lindsey showed him my Instagram profile, and apparently that was all it took. Within hours, I got a DM from Romario that read, “Your friend wasn’t lying, you are beautiful.” Simple, smooth, and confident… just like him. Two days later, we found ourselves on a 6 hour FaceTime call that felt like minutes. We talked about everything: life, family, faith, and the little quirks that make two people realize something deeper is unfolding. When the call ended, I was so sure of what I felt that I immediately called my friend Nneka at 2AM and said, “I just met my husband.” Two weeks later, Romario was on a plane to Dallas to meet me in person. I already had a list of events planned with friends, and he was thrown right into the mix. From brunch to parties and church on Sunday, he didn’t just fit in, he belonged. Our first church service together turned out to be the start of a brand new relationship series: divine timing, to say the least. It sparked deep, intentional conversations about love, commitment, and what we both wanted in a partner. Looking back, it’s so clear that God had His hand on our story from the very beginning. A month later, I couldn’t wait for him to come back to Dallas, so I booked a flight to Tennessee to visit him instead. That weekend, Romario asked me to be his girlfriend (and yes, he asked very formally lol). From there, our love only grew stronger through adventure, laughter, and a few “firsts” we’ll never forget. I went to my first soccer game, he went to his first basketball game, we traveled to new countries, and eventually relocated to Alabama together. Every chapter brought us closer. And then came the proposal. On August 2nd, in beautiful Destin, FL, Romario told me we were doing a photo shoot. Before we left, he pulled out a stunning white dress from his bag and said he wanted me to wear it. My suspicion immediately kicked in but I tried played it cool. About 20 minutes into the shoot, with the waves crashing behind us, nothing had happened yet. Every new spot the photographer suggested, I thought, “Okay, this is it…” and every time, it wasn’t. Finally, Romario got down on one knee, looked up at me with that playful grin, and pulled out a ring pop. Yes, a ring pop. My brain froze, was this really happening? I said yes, laughing and trying to process it all. The photographer, who was clearly in on it, gasped and said, “Wait, a proposal? You didn’t tell me about that!” I was definitely thrown off a bit. A few seconds later, Romario got down on one knee again, this time with the real ring, and asked me to marry him for real. Of course, I said yes (again). The proposal was perfectly us: romantic, playful, and filled with laughter. Since that day, we’ve been preparing for the next chapter of our story. One that feels like the truest reflection of who we are: faith driven, fun loving, and rooted in two cultures that have shaped us both. Now, as we get ready to say “I do” in Jamaica surrounded by 40 of our favorite people, we’re filled with so much gratitude. This isn’t just a wedding, it’s a celebration of divine timing, courageous friendship, long distance love, and the kind of love that makes everything else make sense. We can’t wait to share this day with you in the place where Romario’s story began. So pack your bags, grab your sunglasses, and get ready for love, laughter, and a weekend full of memories we’ll never forget. With love, Tiarra & Romario
