We met at Urbana High School during our sophomore year. Blaine was the new kid in Mr. Daniels history class, and I had just returned from a sick day. Since we both needed to make up a test, Mr. Daniels sat us at the same table. Question by question, we kept glancing at each other’s papers—only to realize, far too late, that neither of us knew the material. We both failed spectacularly. After that memorable disaster, we discovered we shared a mutual friend in the class and ended up sitting together every day. We swapped snacks, joked around, and slowly became part of each other’s routines. Eventually, Blaine made the first move. We started hanging out outside of class, supporting each other’s hobbies, and before long something real began to grow. On February 14, 2017, we officially began dating—and we’ve been choosing each other ever since.
