Back in 2024, we were both pretty over the dating scene—swiping, setups, and near-misses that never quite worked out. So naturally, we didn’t expect that a tennis team would be the thing that brought us together. That January, our friend Laura decided to take matters into her own hands and built a co-ed tennis team full of “eligible singles.” Through a mutual friend, Weiping joined—unknowingly as the only single guy on a very intentionally designed roster. We first met at Nordstrom Tennis Center. It wasn’t love at first sight, but it was a good start—especially considering how graciously Weiping let himself become target practice during that session. A few months later, after some not-so-subtle encouragement from friends (Thanks Matta and Laura!), we started to realize there might be something there. Then came a night at Chicken Prince—our go-to post-match spot for fried chicken, karaoke, and (in this case) a little too much soju. Weiping decided to make his move. The night ended with him not quite remembering his address… and crashing on Tia’s couch instead. And oddly enough—that’s when everything clicked. Not because of the karaoke. Not because of the soju. But because of the dogs. At the time, the house was full: Cody, Daisy, and the “Chi Gang” (Leo and Toffee). Leo, in particular, took his role as protector very seriously and made his feelings about the new guest known by going after Weiping’s sweatshirt while he was lying (slightly drunk) on the floor. Weiping didn’t flinch. Didn’t complain. Didn’t run. And that’s when we both started to think—okay, this might be something special. After that, things moved quickly. We made it official, moved in together in August 2025, and took on renovating our first home side by side. In January 2026—almost exactly two years after we met—Weiping proposed. And of course, the answer was yes. 💍
