We moved to Bristol when I was in 7th grade. I had a thick accent, a bowl haircut, and an old pair of fake Adidas (they had FOUR stripes). Despite that, one kid from “the in crowd” was the first to be my friend. Eventually, I lost the accent, bought some name brand shoes, and had FABULOUS hair, but I never forgot how much Joe’s friendship meant to that awkward kid from Mississippi.
