Asheville is considered a "beer-destination" and for good reason. Asheville is home to over 25 breweries. This website highlights some musts for any first timer. On our "Things to DO" list, we have included additional breweries that we highly recommend.
DuPont State Forest is a rolling, 10,000-acre outdoor playground near Brevard, NC, well-loved for great hiking and biking trails, glassy lakes and beautiful mountaintop views. And the park’s stunning waterfalls draw hikers by the hundreds: the Little River meanders through the park’s rocky, rolling landscape, dropping and cascading in scores of beautiful waterfalls.
Every trip to Asheville, we make a point to take a drive along the parkway. The parkway spans the southern and central Appalachians and offers exceptional views. If you are driving up from Atlanta, this will only add a 45 minutes-1 hour to your drive. It is well worth the time!
The Historic Grove Arcade on Battery Hill in downtown Asheville is a beautiful place to shop and eat! It's one of North Carolina's most historic buildings and features dozens of specialty shops, galleries and restaurants. Find local art, antiques, fine gifts and international cuisine at the Grove Arcade. Outside, the Portico Market features farmers and craftspeople selling their wares, including local crafts, honey, handmade soaps and much more.
Built in 1895 by the Vanderbilt family, the Biltmore is the largest privately-owned estate in the United States and is situated on an 8,000-acre tract. Your admission lets you tour the grounds and several rooms in the house. Even if you don't like touring historic houses, you will probably enjoy Biltmore.
Not too far away from the downtown district is the River Arts District. This one mile stretch on the French Broad River is full of several old buildings that now serve as art studios. You can browse paintings, glass and ceramics, jewelry, and other media for original creations.
12 bones is our BBQ joint of choice in the Asheville area. If you don't trust our taste, then maybe you will trust the Obamas. This is their favorite lunch spot in town as well! If you are planning to visit, make sure to check the hours online as there are two locations.
Our favorite breakfast in town! Do not be afraid of the line. It moves quickly!
A chocolate tasting room.... do we need to say more?
