To those scrolling through this page wondering, Where even is this place? Do I need a visa? Can I use my credit card points? Is this a chance to top up my winter tan?—you’re probably also thinking, Why Boracay? After asking Siri where exactly this island is that you're now somehow expected to fly to, you wouldn’t be wrong to feel a little surprised. Honestly, we still are too. The best way to answer the “Why Boracay?” question is to first explain the randomness of how we met. A boy from the UK, living in Hong Kong. A girl from California, fresh out of her Boston college days and back in the Bay Area. Two very different worlds, both randomly deciding—at the exact same time—to fly to Taipei to study Mandarin. It was there, among unfamiliar characters and awkward language lessons, that those two worlds collided. It would be easy to say “the rest is history,” but that would be a bit of a lie. That chance meeting on a street in Taipei has taken us on quite the journey—from classrooms and night markets to mountains, long-distance flights, and new homes in Hong Kong, London, Boston, and California. Ours has been a relationship in motion… if nothing else, locationally. By the time we all gather in the Philippines, we’ll have known each other for over six years. Six years full of complications, distance, a global pandemic—and somehow, a love that managed to thrive through it all. Random? Definitely. But over time, random has become a word that means something entirely different to each of us—thanks to the other. And that’s why Boracay. We know it’s a long way to come, and we’re so grateful to have you join us. We can’t wait to celebrate together in Boracay!
