October 20, 2016 UNCW vs. ECU- Mens Basketball. I was on the dance team at UNC-Wilmington and it was my sophomore year. The night started out like any other game night. We went over our performance before it was game time, stretched, and put on our Seahawk face tattoos. As we stood on the sidelines, I scanned the room to see who all was in the crowd. Mainly to see where my parents were sitting, who in my friend group had came, and just to look at the regular crowd that came to every game. Except this time, there was someone who stood out to me. There was a guy there that I had never seen before. He was wearing a baseball hat, turned backwards, and it seemed like he was looking back at me. I thought to myself, "no way he is also noticing me.... But he is CUTE!!" The game continued and I kept looking back up in the stands to where he was sitting. Throughout this time, it seemed like he was looking at me just as much as I was looking at him... Side note to my coach at the time... sorry I wasn't paying much attention to the game that night.... Anyways.. After our halftime performance, the dance team switched what side of the gym we were standing on, and I lost him in the crowd. He eventually left the game and I thought "oh well, I'll never see him again." Little did I know, I had an instagram message waiting for me on my phone once the game was over. On the ride home, I told my mom all about this mysterious cute guy that I saw at the game but I would probably never see him again.. However, this guy named Steven Linkous was messaging me on instagram and he was cute too! We chatted back and forth that night for a while until he asked me for my snapchat. Once we exchanged our snap names and he sent me a picture, I literally screamed in the car, "OH MY GOSH THIS IS THE CUTE GUY FROM THE GAME!" He was still wearing the backwards hat and I could tell from his smile, that it was him. We talked for a couple of days and I remember telling everyone that I was going to marry him one day... We went our separate ways for a while, as he was playing professional baseball, states away, and I was still in college. But as time will tell, we always found our way back to each other. Now we get to start our forever story.
After we had Holden, I had wanted to get family pictures made of us. Pictures are a great way to keep and cherish memories, and we barely had any pictures made of us together. Every year, we had sent our Christmas cards to our families, which were of just Holden because he was the center of attention (as he should be). The year of 2020, Steven suggested that we have a photographer take our Christmas pictures and of course I agreed. Little did I know, he had other plans in mind. As the time was getting closer to having our pictures made, the photographer reached out to me and said that we could no longer use the venue that we had originally planned on. I told her that was fine and I relayed the message to Steven and told him that we could always reschedule them. Him knowing what he wanted to do, told me that we should just find somewhere else to take them because he really wanted Christmas pictures of us. The photographer reached back out to me and told me that she had another place in mind that we could go to instead. The day of the photos, Steven kept shaking, he told me it was because he was cold and he never takes pictures, but looking back I know it was because of his nerves... It was mine and Holden's turn to take our pictures and Steven stood behind us, out of the frame, so that he wouldn't be in the pictures. All I remember is him saying "Allison", and as soon as I turned around, he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand. I instantly screamed and bursted out into tears. I, of course, said yes a million times. My dreams wee coming true, as I get to marry the love of my life.
