The day started with a 5 a.m. wake up, and the road trip from Tempe, Arizona to Sedona was underway within the hour. We parked, headed to the trailhead, and began the trek up Sugarloaf Mountain by 8 a.m. When we got to the top, the view was stunning. We took a few minutes to rest, and I was looking out over the valley taking pictures when I heard Steve say, “I think it’s time,” to my brother, James. I thought, “Ok, time to head back down,” and put my camera aside. Steve said, “Hey, Elizabeth” and I turned around to see him down on one knee with a ring box. “Will you marry me?” was met by “I- wh- are you kidding? Yes!” Steve had planned the entire thing with James, and his “I think it’s time” was James’s cue to get his camera ready. We called and FaceTimed our parents from the top of the mountain, and I could not stop smiling or crying. (Thank goodness for dark sunglasses!) It was the easiest and happiest “yes” of my life, and I could not be any more excited to marry my best friend.
