It all started in February of 2022 at Shoveltown Brewery in Easton. Tom remembers seeing the most beautiful girl in red with the prettiest smile walk in. The two of them immediately hit it off and were both smiling and laughing the entire time. About two hours into this perfect date, Tom realized his Best Man, Dan Ahlstedt and his wife Emily were also at the brewery with some of Emily’s family. They had been watching the date the entire time and didn’t want to interrupt. After Tom finally noticed, he proudly introduced them to Meg. He then got the chance to see the way Meg interacted with Dan and Emily’s nephew, and he began to crush harder. Tom walked out of there and called Matt Willey and excitedly told him, “she’s it, she’s the one!” Shoveltown was the first of many of the breweries the two visited. About a month after this perfect first date, with many dates in between, Tom and Meg ventured up to Portsmouth, NH for a weekend. It was here that Tom and Meg made it official - boyfriend and girlfriend! And almost immediately after becoming “official”, when they went to a brewery, “two beers please” turned into “two beers and a water dish” as the couple welcomed Cooper into their hearts and lives. Over the next two years, Tom and Meg fell deeper and deeper in love. Meg and Cooper moved into Brookline with Tom, which made watching movies and tv shows together a lot easier. During this stretch, they’ve enjoyed many trips to Wellfleet, Truro, Dennisport, Portsmouth, Portland, New York City, California, and more. In the fall of 2022, Meg was extremely supportive of Tom throughout his long days and weeks in the fire academy. He’d come home exhausted after each day to an incredibly delicious home cooked meal. To make up for her role as a chef, in turn, Tom was ever eager to quiz Meg on her Encyclopedia sized study guide for her Occupational Therapy Boards. Neither would have been able to do it without the other. Each of them landed the career of their dreams. And now, Meg waves to Tom as she passes his firehouse around the corner from her job at the New England Baptist Hospital. Last February, close to the anniversary of their very first date, Tom asked Meg to go for a walk with Cooper around the Brookline Reservoir, a place the three of them frequent (in the nice weather). Well, knowing she wouldn’t be too enthusiastic about a wind swept walk on a cold February afternoon, he kind of just pulled over next to it. Tom asked if she wanted to come walk Cooper to let him go the bathroom before they brought him to, where else, a brewery. Meg said, “you can, but I’m going to stay in the car.” After a little convincing Meg joined Tom and Cooper on this walk around the Reservoir. That’s when Tom got down on one knee and asked the girl of his dreams to marry him, to which she beamed and said “easiest yes of my life!”
