Traveling to Guatemala

We highly recommend you fly in no later than Friday, December 27th. This will allow you to participate fully in the wedding events on Friday and Saturday, while also providing time on Saturday morning to explore Antigua. • Airport: You will fly into La Aurora (GUA) in Guatemala City. • Passport/Visa Requirements: U.S. citizens need a passport that is valid for six months from the time of entry into Guatemala. There is no tourist visa requirement. • Flight Options: Most major airlines offer flights to GUA. Flights typically run from $300-600 for a direct flight from Houston, but can be higher during the holidays. Flights are often cheapest 3-5 months before the travel date.

Transportation to and from Antigua

Travel from Guatemala City to Antigua can take from 1 - 2 hours, depending on traffic in the city. The following transportation options are available: • Hotel: Hotels often work with Guests to arrange for transportation to and from Guatemala City and Antigua. • Sparks Travel Agency: We are working with Sparks Travel Agency for travel and lodging needs of our Guests (including room blocks). See section below for instructions to arrange travel plans through Sparks Travel. • Uber: Uber is available in Guatemala City and Antigua (but is not available in other parts of Guatemala). • Rental Cars: Rental cars are not necessary. Once you arrive in Antigua, the city is pretty walkable and Uber is also available.

Room Blocks/Hotel Availability

Sparks Travel Agency (see section below) will assist guests with booking hotel nights under our room blocks (they can also assist booking hotels outside of the room blocks). Hotel availability is somewhat limited in Antigua. While certain hotels have provided us with room blocks, due to the wedding date being so close to NYE, room blocks have a minimum night requirement. As a result, it is perfectly okay to book lodging arrangements outside of our room block. Earlier reservations (and those outside of the room block) may have greater flexibility and receive a more favorable nightly rate (depending on the hotel). We are recommending hotel reservations be made as soon as Guests confirm they will be able to attend the wedding. We have included a few recommended hotels below, including hotels where we have room blocks.

We are working with Sparks Travel Agency, a local travel agency in Antigua. Sparks can assist with booking hotels (both options with and without room blocks) and coordinating private or group transportation between GUA Airport and Antigua.
