Kaitlyn (and her Australian shepherd, Remington) moved down to Northern VA in 2016 to pursue career opportunities and a masters at GWU. Before this time, she had lived in various cities but would never change her New York drivers license. After a few weeks of living in Alexandria, Kaitlyn called her mom and said it was time for a license change. It was at that time her mom knew that she had found somewhere that she could finally call home. After years of visiting Kaitlyn, her mom and dad started to fall in love with the area and wanted to also call NOVA home. Kaitlyn's mom owned a real estate company in New York and decided the first step in her relocation would be obtaining her VA broker license. One weekend when visiting, her mom googled the closest real estate school to Kaitlyn's apartment. There is where her parents met local Tom Sklopan Jr. For years her mom would joke about Tom Jr. becoming her son in law one day. Tom Jr. was working really hard on his company, Kaitlyn was pursuing her doctorate, they were both always traveling- the timing for them never seemed right. Once covid hit Kaitlyn's parents felt it was time to buy their first NOVA home and of course used Tom Jr. Since her parents were still in New York, Kaitlyn was the one who went to all of the showings and they finally got some quality time together. After Tom Jr. sold her parents their home, he sold Kaitlyn her first home. To celebrate both sales Kaitlyn's mom booked a dinner at Filomena's for three. It was the month of February and it happened to be decorated for Valentines day. It was on that night that they decided to see where things would go. They spent the next few years traveling, making memories, and loving Remi.
On Valentines day, 2023 Tom asked Kaitlyn (alongside Remi) to marry him in their kitchen at home. The same way Kaitlyn's dad asked her mom to marry him on Valentines day in 1986. Kaitlyn will be keeping her Virginia drivers license and they have the opportunity to continue to make memories in the city where Tom Jr. grew up. See you guys in Old Town!
