The Asheville Art Museum shows art of the 20th century, with a particular focus on art from Appalachia. This includes a wonderful collection of work made by artists who trained at Black Mountain College, which operated from 1933-1957. Lake Eden Retreat, where we are getting married, is the site of the old college. Amelia works here, and curated the ceramics show on the second floor.
The enormous Biltmore Estate was designed by Richard Morris Hunt for the Vanderbilt family, and was completed in 1895. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. A visit to Biltmore is at least a half day, and you should book in advance. Tickets are $90+/person.
Our favorite after-work hike! Short, easy hike with beautiful views—a great place to bring a picnic! If you want to go farther, the trail links with Craiggy Pinnacle Trail, which is also stunning. The drive to Craiggy is along the Blue Ridge Parkway, which features beautiful mountain views.
Nice, short hike with pretty views. Has a lot of stairs, but worth it!
Our favorites are: 1. Burial Forestry Camp - nice indoor space and good food, great for dinner 2. Zillicoah - nice outdoor space, music most nights 3. Highland Brewing - great beer and has a playground 4. Sierra Nevada - has an informative tasting tour
