Kofi and I met at a business conference. When we broke up in sessions, I asked a question, and when I looked to my left I saw this beautiful chocolate man. I thought he took a picture of me, but I was thinking maybe he didn’t and I was just being paranoid. Later I realized he actually did take a picture of me, and when I asked him why, he claimed it was because he couldn’t believe he found his wife, and he needed to treasure the moment. After taking a picture of me, he didn’t talk to me when the event was over and it was networking time. I went up to him, interrupting a woman he was speaking with, and I said what do you do? He told me he was a hotel developer, which is crazy because seven days earlier I had said if I had $1 billion I would buy a hotel. I thought that was so interesting! I was so nervous around him that I ate everything in sight during the networking hour, as Kofi claims. I was having an event with my company and I invited him by texting him the flyer. He was so attentive in replying back, and the next thing I know he’s asking me on a date. He was late for the date! I literally almost left, but he did make it worth my while with beautiful flowers and a teddy bear. The next day after the date he asked me to be his girlfriend, and I said yes....
Tuesday March 5, 2019 It was a warm March morning. The agenda for my morning was the US Small Business Association Business Expo at the Bell Tower on 34th. I arrived just after the morning breakfast in time for the opening panel on the main stage. After the panel ended, two breakout sessions were offered, and I chose to attend ‘The App Lady’ session. The speaker delved into her life experience, but I felt she didn’t explain or describe why she was called the self-described ‘App Lady’. After her talk, the floor was opened for questions. The question/answer format included the speaker tossing a ball to an audience member, who would then have the floor to ask a question. The ball was tossed to a beautiful young woman with short locs. She engaged the speaker in a lively back-and-forth. I thought to myself ‘wow, this woman is poised, confident, and self-assured!’ I was mesmerized by this very attractive woman and I made a note to introduce myself. I captured a photo of her in conversation with the speaker, to memorialize the highlight of the conference for me thus far. After the breakout session, the conference attendees returned to the main stage for a closing panel. After the panel, I was speaking with fellow attendees, when the mystery woman appeared. We introduced each other and chatted until we were asked to leave the room, as the panel was over and we were the last ones in the room! I found out her name was Kemishia. The conference ended with a buffet lunch in the lobby. Kemishia and I waited in the buffet line together, and after getting our food, we found a table with two other attendees, as well as my cousin Kofi who I brought with me to the event. I was surprised at how much Kemishia was eating and eating as the event staff passed hors d'oeuvre. I had to take my cousin to the airport, so as I left I took Kemishia’s information, and she mentioned to me she had an event planned for the weekend.
Two days later, I picked Kemishia up with flowers and a stuffed doggy-bear, as she had mentioned to me that she had a dog. We headed to Dish Society for a nice and healthy farm-to-table meal, and had a riveting conversation. Next, we headed to The African American Library at the Gregory School, and walked through the museum’s exhibits. As we walked through the museum, I took Kemishia’s hand because I felt our conversations and connection was just so perfect. We left the Gregory School and headed to Fun Plex, Houston’s nostalgic indoor amusement center. We rode rides, raced go-karts, and took two spins on the Ferris wheel. We ended our time at Fun Plex doing my favorite thing - Roller Skating! Kemishia hadn’t skated in a while, so her feet were sore after skating. We had so much more to do on our date, so we took a break so I could massage her feet before we continued. Next we went to iPic for dinner and a movie. During the movie a waitress accidentally spilled a full glass of wine all over my pants. I helped her clean up the floor, and we hit the road. On the way home, we noticed a lot of police on the highway. I got pulled over. The officer smelled the wine on my clothes, and I had to explain the ordeal at the movie theatre. The officer let me go, as I believe the police were searching for someone. I dropped Kemishia off at her car, and I headed home. We chatted when we both made it home. The next day, I asked Kemishia to be my girlfriend, and she said yes. It has continued to be a beautiful love story!!
Because I love yellow, and photo shoots, I had told Kofi that I would like to do a fall photo shoot. He told me I could choose outfits and he would choose the location. We drove from Houston to Austin, which is my favorite city in Texas, and the night before he had strawberries and champagne laid out! I didn’t think anything of it because he’s a hopeless romantic like that. Before I went to sleep he started reading a journal that he had kept the first couple of months that he met me. As he read to me how I made him feel, it was so nostalgic. In the morning we got ready and met the photographer. We went to the first location, and the photographer told me that he would record some behind-the-scenes if I didn’t mind. Obviously, I didn’t mind as a content creator. I was ready for the photo shoot to begin, when my now Fiancé began professing his love to me and getting down on one knee. It was really funny because he did so much research about which knee he should kneel on, in which way he should hold the box, and yet he still picked up my right hand LOL.
