We met while working at Ogilvy, an advertising agency in Chicago. We became fast friends, spending time together in and out of work alongside other co-workers. John knew pretty early on that he was smitten. Laura thinks deep down she probably did subconsciously have a crush on John, too. Thanks to some liquid courage from John after an office holiday party, the two realized and admitted their feelings for each other. From hazy memory it went from something like, "You don't even know," to sharing a first kiss. The next day's hangover seemed like an excellent time to admit there really was a romantic spark.
John and Laura knew they wanted to marry each other, and Laura had an idea a proposal might be coming. But, John is a sly one and completely surprised her with a perfect proposal at home in their Chicago apartment - just about a week before they set off to move to Portland. John organized dozens of their photo memories into their love story. He placed the photos face down and wrote the story of their relationship through captions on the backside. Through tears, they read each caption and flipped over the photo to reveal the image. Together the images tell how their relationship grew and share some of their favorite life memories together so far. John proposed with his late Aunt Julie's ring and Laura is honored to wear it.
