We love to travel together and we knew that is how we wanted spend our wedding week--sharing our joy of exploring new places with the people who mean the most to us. We wanted somewhere with a great climate, great cost, amazing food, and a lively culture. Spain was the perfect fit! It helps that Taryn has a minor degree in Spanish making language less of a barrier. We love this beautiful beach town and hope to get to share it with you.
We love everyone's little ones, but there will be no children at our wedding celebrations in Spain. We want this to feel like a true vacation for everyone, and we are sure you could use a little break ;)
All of our invitations will notate the invitees. While we would love to celebrate with everyone in our lives, we are choosing to keep our destination celebration intimate and exclusive to those with a prominent part of our everyday lives.
We recommend staying at the Melia Hotel, however, do whatever makes you comfortable! We have secured discounted rates with the hotel listed and personally vetted it ourselves. If you prefer to be in the heart of town, we also recommend Medium Sitges Hotel and are working on getting a discount code from them as well. We only advise against staying in Barcelona for our wedding weekend; the train is not 24/7, and can be unreliable--commuting back and forth will take hours.
This is entirely up to you! We expect people to make a full vacation out of this so feel free to explore other parts of Europe before or after our wedding weekend. If flying directly into Spain from the US, we recommend arriving to Sitges by Thursday September 24th at the latest (unless you are in the wedding party).
Please hold off booking travel until you have received our formal invitations. After you formally RSVP, book away!
While it is not 100% necessary, we strongly recommend learning some key phrases such as how to order food, ask for the check, and directional help. Even if its not perfect, locals will appreciate the attempt and it will be helpful when you encounter the occasional local who does not know English. We recommend downloading Google Translate and download the dictionary so you can use offline.
Sitges is very safe, alone or in a group. We only have encountered friendly people and crime is minimal. It is also LGBTQIA+ friendly-- the friendliest in the entire country! But as always, be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Currently, there no travel restrictions to Spain.
Sitges in September is perfect. Due to its location by the Garraf mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, Sitges has a unique microclimate that is warmer and sunnier than many other places in the region. Expect low humidity with highs up to 77F and lows down to 62F. Many people are still out enjoying the beaches with not so scorching weather.
Call a taxi using a taxi app such as Uber or Free Now (that you downloaded before leaving the U.S.). We were idiots and decided to walk while we (mostly tony) carried 100lb luggage. Just get a taxi.
We will not be providing transportation to the ceremony; taxis and ubers are easy to arrange with apps. We will arrange a few taxi vans throughout the evening to take those who have reached their party limit back to the hotel. If you plan to stay for the "AFTERS" into morning hours, we recommend coordinating with your taxi driver to pick you back up as cabs will be more difficult to secure in early morning hours.
No, but we highly advise. It will give you an ease of mind if anything goes "wrong".
Spain uses the Euro so it will depend on the conversion rate at the time of the trip. Sitges is not as touristy of other parts so their prices are lower than major cities. A nice meal for two with drinks could cost between $40-80, but usually you can eat for much much less. You can go to the market and get fresh cheese, Iberian ham, and a bottle of wine for less than $10. In our opinion, its one of the most affordable cities we have traveled to in Europe!
