How We Met

Katie's POV We met like most couples of this modern age—through a dating app in college! After messaging back and forth for a few days, Glenn randomly called me one night and asked when our first date was going to be. He said he had been thinking of asking for a while but wanted to make sure it wouldn't interfere with my school or work schedule. Our first date was at a Pho restaurant in Colorado Springs (He drove all the way up from Pueblo just for it!). Every year on our anniversary, we have continued the tradition of slurping on pho! I found out much later that Glenn was horrified by how much soy sauce in put in my bowl on our first date. The night was a blast, we spoke of our futures and hope for our careers. Glenn even talked about his theory of the Egyptian pyramids for 20 whole minutes. He was a goof and that's when I knew he was a keeper. Glenn's POV Katie and I met like most modern couples - a dating app. This was a new encounter for us as it’s a relatively new and somewhat difficult concept to imagine, I mean meeting up with a total stranger… But in large part it makes sense. It allows you to immediately understand whether this is someone you could end up being with based on values that are important to you, such as, their desire for children, their political views, moral or religious belief, etc. I don’t really remember any of those though because the truth is, all we’re trying to figure out is if the person sitting across from you is normal. Our first date, was funny at parts like when Katie put copious amounts of soy sauce and teriyaki sauce in her Pho soup - it was pitch black. I couldn’t help but think to myself she will be constipated for the next couple days. Turns out it was Katie’s first Pho experience. And so, now we get Pho every year the first day we met (with light soy and teriyaki sauce). The second date was when I fell in love with Katie. I made my Ma’s famous spaghetti and meatballs. If you haven’t had it I feel sorry for you. We drank wine, laughed, danced, and told stories of our lives. It was that we did these things but it was also the simple things, like how Katie was just being her comfortable self - and how she enjoyed when I was being myself. From there, we have been falling in love ever since.
