When Bernadette went off to college her Godmother gave her one rule, no dating seniors or athletes. Not even a month later, during her freshman year, Bernadette met Derek at a house party on Elon University's campus. He was a senior and football player just as her Godmom warned, but the two took an interest in each other when they realized they were both from Durham. Four years later they've got two degrees, two rottweilers and many memories. We look forward to you helping us celebrate this new journey in our lives together.
It was one of those rainy summer day's where you just want to stay at home. The prior week, Derek had spoken with Bernadette's parents and anxiously awaited the proposal. For Derek, this particular rainy Friday was filled with a series of unfortunate events, including accidentally locking his keys in the car. As he rushed off to a meeting, Bernadette was tasked with meeting the locksmith to gain access to the car. She paid the locksmith and wanted to put the extra money Derek had given her in the private compartment in the car. When she opened the compartment there was a purple ring box. Bernadette was completely oblivious that it would be an engagement ring and didn't open the box. Still, it was odd and once they were in the car together she told Derek what she had found. He didn't believe she hadn't looked (She promises she didn't), so he proposed in the car!
