Back in 2012, Sophie was a junior and Ryan was a senior at Westborough High School. A mutual friend told Sophie that Ryan was not only interested in her but said that he “would marry her someday”. Now, Ryan claims he doesn’t remember saying it, but regardless when Sophie heard that she was intrigued about who this guy was. They started making eye contact everyday across the lunch room but Sophie was skeptical because his hair was orange after the hockey team dyed their hair "blonde" for playoffs. From the first day Ryan texted her, there hasn’t been a day they haven’t spoken. Ryan would meet her at the door of her classrooms so they could take walks through the halls together. He picked her up in his Jeep for their first date at Uhlman’s Ice Cream. On the way home he played classic, cheesy rom-com songs and begged that she sing along with him. Sophie insisted she doesn’t sing in front of people, so he said he would turn the volume up so he couldn't hear her. While they belted out the chorus with the loud music playing, arms out the window and wind in their hair, Ryan quickly shut it off so he could catch Sophie singing! As they laughed almost to tears in that moment, they knew their connection was special. That same night Ryan asked her if she would join him to his Senior Ball the following week. She excitedly agreed and ran straight to Mom who gave her a dress from her closet. Ryan picked up Sophie in his brother’s Mustang, and they had the best night together at Gillette Stadium. From that night on, they deem June 5th as their anniversary. The rest is history!
9 years of being inseparable and living together in NYC with their puppy, Fergie, lead to the most beautiful engagement weekend. Ryan made a fancy dinner reservation at the River Cafe in Brooklyn the night before their anniversary as a way to throw her off from the real plan he had up his sleeve. Ryan knows how much of a planner Sophie is, so he had their friends, Bryce & Natalie, text their group asking to get dinner that night. Since they already celebrated their anniversary the night prior, Sophie made a reservation - as he knew she would - at a pizza place near the Long Island City waterfront. Meanwhile, Ryan & Bryce had already gone to scope out the area the week prior to pick the perfect proposal spot. While Sophie & Ryan were waiting for their arrival, they walked over to the waterfront where Ryan got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, so they could continue celebrating anniversaries forever - of course she said yes! As planned, Bryce & Natalie were there at the perfect time to capture it all on camera. Sophie tried calling her parents and friends but they didn't answer, so he insisted she just enjoy the moment and try them again later. Sophie was completely surprised considering she thought she was the one making plans for the night! Ryan said he had a private chef waiting for the 4 of them at their apartment rooftop lounge to celebrate, and as a thank you to Bryce & Natalie for photographing the moment. Sophie insisted she change first into her only white dress, assuming they would take more photos. She opened the door to the lounge and was completely overwhelmed with family and friends from across the country cheering! (hence the unanswered calls...) Ryan pulled it off flawlessly and they couldn’t be more thankful for all the love and support ♥
We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. Hope to see you in Italy!
