The Best Thing I Never Saw Coming

Her side of the story.

So.. Brandon and I met my first semester of college. We were both taken, and I thought he was weird, shy, and too awkward. You see, our story isn't one of those, "we knew as soon as we met that we were meant to be." No, no, our story is much better. Now, was he hilarious? Yes. Was he a good friend? 100%. But would I ever date him? Absolutely not. A few months after we met, Brandon became a single man. Shortly after, I noticed that Brandon wasn't just weird, awkward, and shy anymore. He was now weird, awkward, shy, and flirty. Someone with zero ability to pick up on social cues could tell you that Brandon was into me, and I shut that dream down fast. I'm talking side hugs, "you're like the brother I never had!", and "you're such a good friend Brandon!" until he got the picture. Months of friend zoning went on, I was recently single, and I was ready for something new. You're probably thinking this is when I gave in, and finally gave Brandon his chance, but no. *PLOT TWIST* I went out with his brother. Insane, I know. Against all odds, Brandon, his brother, and I are on great terms now. Well, this little fling didn't last very long, and I was back to the single life. Let's fast forward a year from this point in our story. In this year, Brandon and I dated other people and stopped hanging out entirely. A wave when we saw each other was the extent of our relationship. But we're both single now and hadn't hung out in nearly a year. Out of nowhere one night, I couldn't stop thinking about what my life would look like if I had just given Brandon his chance. I mean, he's a little weird, but who isn't? The very next day, Brandon and I started texting and decided to catch up. As we hung out, I kept imagining what it would be like to pursue this. Everything was so easy, we knew each other so well, etc. It's getting pretty late, and we're about to part ways. What do I do? I kiss this man. A billion I love you's and a dog later, and here we are. Just a couple kids crazy in love.

The Best Thing I Never Saw Coming

His side of the story.

Prepare to be inspired, as this is a tale of how losers become winners, underdogs become alpha males, and how long shots become big shots. Fasten your seatbelts as we explore a cringeworthy friendship, a disturbing amount of tension, and a new and unpleasant meaning behind brotherly love. It all began when my girlfriend at the time introduced me to her new friend, Madison. Being that I was such an overwhelmingly faithful and loyal boyfriend, I acknowledged that she was a catch but knew better to keep my distance. When things ended with my relationship, I did what any good ex-boyfriend would do and made moves on my ex-girlfriend's friend. We built a great friendship, that further escalated into a deeper friendship, which finally blossomed into...just friendship. It wasn't until my "friend" Madison vented to me about her current boy troubles that I realized this was a little more complicated than I thought. Turns out her current boy interests involved none other than my (significantly more unattractive and less charming) brother. This is usually the part where most men would accept defeat; however, I am not like most men. I am much more desperate. It turns out the only thing longer than my body is my patience. I continued to pursue the long game and maintain my position in the friendzone, while my brother and Madison continued to talk. Eventually, we both pursued different relationships and even stopped hanging out as friends. It wasn't until fate itself decided to make us both single again at the same time and rekindle our friendship. Little did I know that our story up until now had just been a messy prequel, and it was time for our protagonist to finally get his happy ending. I should have known that I would get what I wanted in the end, as it is clear that I am both irresistible and breathtakingly attractive. Fast-forward to today, where I am now a dog dad, approaching pharmacy school, and soon-to-be married to the most amazing "friend" I have ever had.
