We met in a parking deck. I was leaving a party and stopped Jacinda. The rest is history. The end.
It was a cold and blistering night, just kidding, well actually it was cold and rainy. That morning Tasha and I were scheduled for Saturday morning practice at the Eddie Smith Field House. We had been running around looking for Tasha's keys all morning and couldn't find them. We never found them and drove my car instead. As we drove down Old Chapel Hill Blvd, my car started to hydroplane from the wet roads and eventually spun off the road into a tree, a fence and then a ditch. We were fine (although I was freaking out and my car was totaled). Tasha calls Qy saying "Girl we just got in a wreck, can you come get us, we're right down the street"? Four or five parental calls, an emergency room visit, an ambulance ride and 2 naps later, we arrive back at the house. This just happened to be the same day as UNC and NCCU's Homecoming. We had already purchased tickets to all of the events that were going on and we were still down for the cause. Who would've known that on this eventful day I would meet my soulmate. After attending the party at White Bar, a few of my roommates and teammates and I were walking through the parking deck to get to Franklin Street. We were headed for B-Skis (I love their AK-Ski) when Airington and another friend approached us. Being the bad (hungry) biddies we were at the time, we continued to walk. Airington approached me and asked for my name. I stopped and told him my name despite the yells from my friends "C'mon Jacinda, we're hungry" and "Girl he's cute, but come on". He asked me what I was studying and I knew this conversation wasn't going to end quickly. I told my girls that I would catch up with them and I sat and talked with Airington for about 15 minutes about what I wanted to do in life and about the eventful day I had had. We talked about his job and future goals as well. We exchanged numbers and I eventually met up with my friends. Although that night was somewhat of a blur, I had no idea I had just met my soon-to-be husband.
It was a typical weekday, I (Jacinda) had come home from work and had gotten comfortable. I was starting to cook dinner and wash dishes. About 30 minutes into cooking, Airington had finally gotten home from work and was walking in the bedroom to get comfortable as well. I had just dropped some chicken legs in the deep fryer when I heard Airington call me into the bedroom. I pushed the door open and he was on one knee. "Will you marry me"? I was in shock! Not because I was nervous or anything. I was just so caught off guard. "You want me? You want me looking like this?" He laughed. "Yes, I do". Smiling ear- to- ear, "Yes! I will marry you!" As I put on the ring I had been admiring!!! Airington's secret: In the midst of me planning a surprise birthday party for him, he snuck out, purchased the engagement ring with plans of proposing to me on his birthday. How SWEET!!! Jacinda's secret: I got engaged in my pajamas, wig off, glasses on, non-manicured nails, deep frying chicken.
