How We Met

September 1, 2012

The celebration of love between these two began during a time that requires great dedication, determination, and discipline. However, with their sights set on their careers, they couldn’t avoid finding a future in each other as well. During their college years, Jaz and Vic crossed paths at a party hosted by one of the Groomsmen (Rashad Bevel), whom shared a mutual friend with the Bride-to-be. That mutual friend invited Jaz and her roommate to come out to Kent State University for it’s very own ‘Welcome Week Ice Breaker’ event. The gals planned for a bar crawl on infamous Water Street, before the Ice Breaker; fortunately, they decided to take a detour to Rashad’s kick back instead. The fellas were doing just that, kicking back, when three ladies walked into the house and headed towards the couch. Vic, was sitting at an adjacent table next to Rashad and his roommates. In that moment, he saw Jaz for the first time, and although he couldn’t explain it, he immediately expressed, “Thats going to be my girl!” The guys continued to joke and carry on, but Victor was utterly engrossed by her essence. He was becoming increasingly enamored with her, by every step she took. —He knew she was the one. On the contrary, per usual, the bride-to-be didn’t initially notice the handsome stranger, (Vic) admiring her. She was captivated by the art in the house, and b-lined right past him and his friends, to get a better view of the pieces. Victor took notice, but before he could even say anything to her, someone else asked Jaz if she’d like to see the rest of the artifices on display. Naturally she couldn’t allow that opportunity to pass. That still didn’t stop Victor’s victory. He decided while she’s getting an art tour, he’ll make his way to where Rashad and Jaz’s friends were sitting. Once Jaz came back, she was welcomed with a drink, and in that moment was introduced to the good-looking newcomer. Jasmayne instantaneously locked eyes with Vic. —She was flattered, but nervously thought to herself, “OH! He’s handsome!” *looking around intending to catch a peripheral glance to check if he was looking at her that same way* “Omg…yup, he’s looking at me like that!?!” “Play it cool, Jaz!” *Hair Flip*. She was fully committed to that blissful yet intense moment; just an optimistically curious gaze. They locked eyes once again, and it left each of them interested. You could cut the attraction with a knife! It wasnt hard to tell that they were both simultaneously smitten. Ironically enough, the two NEVER spoke directly to each other the entire night. Just stealing glances while exchanging smirks and batting eyelashes was enough for these lovebirds. Their connection was so strong— without verbal confirmation. Everyone sitting in the room couldn’t help but notice. The couple currently says, “as cliché as it may sound, it was undeniably love at first sight.” “Forget sparks, we knew, we found home in each other.” Jaz explains, “It was a surreal experience, I don’t believe either one of us knew how to approach each other, but we consciously understood that we were both experiencing these same emotions together.” Vic adds, “It was understood, we didn’t need words.” “Meeting Jaz, I realized I never felt like this about anyone, it was concrete, familiar and new at the same time.” “I knew, I couldnt let her get away.” Nonetheless, before Vic left that night, he did muster up the confidence to ask Jaz for her number. The two spoke everyday for a month. They had their first date during another infamous Kent State occasion, ‘Halloween Fest’. That date was the catalyst to their ever evolving romance. By December 3rd that year, the two were officially dating. They’ve been inseparable ever since!

The Proposal

Our Anniversary; December 3, 2019

Vic and Jaz had been dating for 7 years and living together for 6 when they welcomed their first child Elijah Ma’at! So, while the proposal itself was technically a surprise, they’ve been talking about marriage for years. Anytime an engagement theme commercial came on, or, they would walk past a jewelry store Vic would joke, “let’s say f$@k it and elope!” The proposal was intimate. Just the two of them, like they talked about. Vic’s not a planner when it comes to displaying his romantic side but, to Jasmayne’s surprise he planned a whole day for their anniversary. First, he presented Jaz with her favorite breakfast an a handwritten note including reservations for a hair, nail, and makeup appointment for later that day. The bride-to-be states she honestly, never thought to herself “He’s going to propose!?” She figured he was just being romantic. Caught up in romantic bliss, she just assumed Vic was gifting her some much deserved pampering. The bride continued, “Looking back, I should’ve known something was up after reading he provided me with a chauffeur for the day!” Afterwards she returned home all glammed up & ready to show Vic. The house was empty however, it was decorated. Rose & Anemone petals were leading to a ornately decorated indoor picnic. Next to a display of macaroons, chocolate covered strawberries, truffles and champagne, was a beautifully wrapped box & card. She hastily opened the card, it read “Thought you might like this. Be dressed by 7, lets save the treats for later! I’ll see you soon, beautiful! Happy Anniversary, love Vic!” Inside the box was a dress & shoes with a matching clutch! The chauffeur drove her to The Marble Room where she was escorted to a private dinning area. Vic wasn’t anywhere in sight. So she turned around to look, then, their song, Gap In The Clouds by Yellow Days began to play. Vic was standing there with a single anemone in one hand & a ring box in the other. He came closer, grabbed her left hand & got down on one knee. She immediately started crying. He asked her if she’d like to spend the rest of their lives together. Of course, she said YES!
