It Goes Down In the DMs

Steve slid into my DMs, and over the next couple of years, we chatted here and there, went out to lunch a few times, and slowly became friends that loved to debate! He stood 10 toes for the guys and you know I said what needed to be said for my ladies. I was in a single-and-loving-it phase (and, let’s be honest, a little bit toxic 😅), so nothing seemed romantic at least not to me. Y'all I even blocked him once over something he didn’t even do! Don't worry, I apologized and invited him to lunch telling him to be mindful of what he chose because "I'm on a teacher salary." LOL More time passed with us talking here and there and I began to do some inner work. Then I spun the block and this time around, I realized how funny, kind, and charismatic he actually was. I accepted my type was no good for me and I was fine with that! I would see what this guy - who's safe, a bit of a square, and frequently mentioned how soft he'd gotten since he turned 30 - was about. I totally mislabeled him because turns out he grew up a fighter and was a ladies' man up until 30! (He was 33 at this point). Everything clicked the night we went out with some of his battle buddies (my baby is an army vet). That was when we shared our first kiss and danced the night away—somewhere with great music and lots of laughter (definitely not a club, promise *side eye*). And from that night on, we just knew. He’s social and extroverted and I’m more of an introvert that he loves to say "no one would believe how old you really act". We balance each other perfectly. Over time, I’ve watched him grow in his faith and kindness, becoming the amazing man I get to call my fiancé. And then there was the proposal! I had absolutely no idea it was coming that day (May 22, 2025), though for some reason I felt it might happen. He’s always confident, but I could sense the nervous energy radiating off him. Somehow, he managed to gather 40+ people at The Mansion on Blanding in downtown Columbia, and no one told me a thing! I had zero giveaways. Originally, we thought about an April wedding, but after checking calendars, I decided on May 22. When I told him, he said, “That’s our engagement date,” and just like that, we knew it was meant to be. A whole year later, we’re celebrating our love on the same day - a perfect full-circle moment. We’re excited to continue this adventure together, filled with laughter, love, and a little bit of playful chaos because that’s exactly how our story started. Xo, Jess Thompson, the future Mrs. Teagle
