Becoming the Swints

Percy: We met on February 28th, 2015, at Starbucks, just after a few days of communicating back and forth through Craigslist. Maile was starting something new and exciting in her life and she needed a designer to fulfill an essential role. She responded to my Graphic Design post where I advertised my services and left a “friendly” (or creepy) picture of myself. I thought it was refreshing to actually meet a potential client face to face as it was common to have all transactions sent through email. I remember walking into Starbucks and looking for someone who recognized me since I didn’t have a picture of her. A young lady connected eyes with me and waved me over. As I saw Maile for the first time, my jaw dropped and my heart melted within my chest. Maile: Percy and I spent about 30 minutes covering my new project and the next 2 hours getting to know each other. It was as if we knew one another for years. We connected in a way that sparked a great friendship for the next year. After that year, Percy and I started dating. Love would then follow, along with its complications. Jesus came into our lives in an amazing way. After a series of shortcomings and mistakes, He has brought us closer together than ever before. Through His precious word and sacrifice, Jesus taught us what true love is. We are so excited to take our vows in front of God with loved ones as witnesses.

8 months before April 2019, Maile, myself, and two great friends of ours, planned a 2 week vacation to Bali, Indonesia. About a month before this trip I knew that I was going to propose to Maile. My mom is the only one who I told about my intent to propose. She was thrilled and she immediately helped me by finding a ring and having it shipped only days before going on our trip to Bali. When I received the ring (just a week before our trip), I immediately stuffed it in my luggage. Maile had no idea of its existence. As we arrived in Bali, I wasn't sure how I’d pull it off. A week into our vacation, I finally revealed to Steph and Collin (our friends who came along) that I was going to propose. They assisted in a big way helping with the proposal details. On April 20th, Maile was baptized at the resort's pool. The day after, on Easter Day, the four of us went out for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in Bali. When we got back to the resort, Maile and I walked up to our room and entered the front door. Candles and rose petals created a beautiful pathway into our room. Maile completely oblivious to what was going on, turns around to find me on one knee.
