The Multicultural Celebration

The Wedding Website of Anny Ali and Stan Austin
Join us as we celebrate a fusion of traditions and cultures

Nikah

islamic union

We will witness our union in an islamic nikah ceremony in March in Houston, Texas in an omage to Anny's Pakistani Islamic roots. A nikah involves reading of prayer and exchanging vows in front of witnesses, often accompanied by signing a marriage certificate.

Mehendi

the henna ceremony

One of the oldest traditions in South Asia, this ceremony involves the bride and groom applying intricate henna designs on their hands and feet. It is common for the bride to hide her partner's initials in the design, to be found by the partner. Henna is known not only for its natural properties, but is said to bring good omen to the couple. Superstitions link the deepness of the color of the henna to the depth of the couple's love. The ceremony, often combined with sangeet, involves a celebration where the couple and their loved ones get henna designs, sing, dance, and eat sweets.

Sangeet

Singing and Dancing

A night of singing and dancing, Sangeet or Dholki involve drums and music with loved ones singing traditional wedding songs and celebrating the couple. The night usually involves musical games, choreographed dances dedicated to the couple, and a ton of fun. Ours will feature a karaoke machine!

Wedding Ceremony

I Do

Saturday afternoon, as we look out over the Pacific Ocean, we will renew our vows that we laid down two years ago with all of you there to witness and be part of our story. Although we started out quiet, we want to be loud in our proclamation of love. There will be flowers, white dresses, rings, and hopefully, your love and support.
