About Our Venue

The Wedding Website of Jacob Sparrow and Cassidy Houtz
Of all the venues we toured, we felt an instant connection with Moonstone Manor. You can feel the history that this building and property has seen throughout her lifetime. Originally the Conewago Manor Farm in June 1739, she served as a residence for Samuel Smith, a local miller and Indian trader who received the original warranted deed from the William Penn family in May 1742. In 1800, Henry Bates Grubb, the Ironmaster of the Hopewell Forge, bought the property and expanded it to a 3,000 acre farm renaming it Mount Vernon Estate. In 1899, Mount Vernon Estate was acquired by the Pennsylvania Vaccine Company. The stone barn on property was used as a laboratory for Dr. H.M. Alexanders experiments. Dr. Alexanders company continues today operating in Marietta, PA under the name Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories. Over the years Moonstone Manor has been a United State Post Office, a railway ticket office for lines including the Pennsylvania Railroad, an Inn, and now, our wedding venue.
