I was an hour into my serving shift when Tyler walked in to start his first day at Outback. With his big smile and ability to start conversation with anyone, we became instant friends. Tyler's the kind of guy that people want to be around and I was definitely no exception. It wasn't long before I found myself wondering "who is this guy and how do I get him to notice me?" I know it sounds crazy but I had this feeling, almost immediately after meeting him, that I was meeting my husband. Yeah, I will admit, she was the one that pursued me in the beginning. It was a weird time in my life to start dating someone, you know? I had just finished school and moved back to Ohio. I was trying to be responsible but she basically refused that idea, haha! She made it clear that no matter what was ahead, she wanted to go through it with me.
Tyler and I went through several apartments and jobs in our first year together. We moved in with each other fairly quickly, which was fine by us. We thrived when we were together. I don't think either of us thought twice. When we finally settled in and started renovations on our current rental home, things went so fast and easy. We worked hard, side by side and painted like 5 rooms before our very first argument. Standing there, covered in paint and spackling and barely actually mad, it clicked. We are a great team. We were good on our own but much better together.
I originally wanted to propose by this awesome stream we like to hike to near our house but I came home the day of her 30th birthday with flowers in my hand and the ring in my pocket and I knew I'd be too nervous to try and wait. His heart was racing! He had this little speech prepared about "ordinary moments" and there we stood in our living room - him in gym shorts and Beyonce playing in the background. A perfectly ordinary moment. He said something like "I want to love you always. Through the big events and exciting adventures but especially in all of our ordinary moments" and then he got down on one knee right there next to the coffee table. It was kind of perfect in how it wasn't and it was the day I had been waiting for since our first kiss. Right after the proposal we both immediately agreed we really only needed three things at the celebration of our wedding - good food, good drinks and great company. We so hope that you'll be able to join us in honoring being "better together" and all of life's beautiful, ordinary moments.
