While their love story began in 5th grade for Mario, Key-aira didn't really think much of it. Fast forward to their junior year of high school, they were on an LA college tour with Making Waves. During a visit to Magic Mountain, Key-aira got into a huge argument with her ex-boyfriend and Mario decided to swoop in and shoot his shot. Mario offered a listening ear as Key-aira went on-and-on about her ex. Eventually the conversation turned into them getting to know each other. By the end of the night, they exchanged phone numbers and they have been texting ever since.

The day before their 12 year anniversary, Mario told Key-aira to prepare for their annual anniversary dinner. Key-aira spent that day pampering with a few of her friends getting her nails and make-up done. As Key-aira was getting dressed for dinner, her friend received a call that her boyfriend injured himself while on a run and was unable to walk. They rushed over to the park to assist him. Key-aira was furious that she would be late for dinner because of his accident. Key-aira and her friends searched the park looking for their injured friend. But when they reached the end of the walkway, there was Mario standing amongst all their friends and family holding balloons that spelled out: WILL YOU MARRY ME? As Key-aira approached, Mario got down on one knee. Key-aira burst out in tears and asked if this was all a joke. Her mother shouted out, "It's REAL", and the two were engaged.
