We met at a mutual friends' engagement party at a distillery in Milwaukee. A group of us were enjoying drinks outside after the tour. At some point, Ryan began singing a Taylor Swift song — harmonized with his Best Man — much to Sarah's amusement. To conclude the duet, he gave Sarah a flower. The gesture stuck with her until the next watering hole where more words and drinks were exchanged. Several texts, a sushi date, and some persistence from Ryan later and everything clicked. It was meant to be (other than the whole pop-star singing thing!).
Two-and-a-half years later, after doing long-distance from Chicago to San Francisco, making a cross-country move, and tackling a new life together in the Bay Area, Ryan proposed on an unseasonably warm Chicago winter day in front of the iconic 'Bean' after some ice skating. The surprise (Sarah thought she had planned the perfect 'friends weekend') and delight of being surrounded by friends and family was truly unforgettable. We can't wait to include everyone in the celebrating come May 11th!
