How We Met

Youngins

It was summerish of 2012 and my friend and I were bored at the hospital waiting for me to get some scans done. We decided to prank text somebody that I didn't have in my phone. We text back and forth a couple of times and Anthony finally asked who it was that was texting him. So me being the immature 16 year old I was, said my name was Shanaynay LOL. I think I finally came clean about who I was, I mean I obviously had to! We lost contact the rest of 2012 and started texting back up around February of 2013. I accidentally fell asleep without responding one night and thought it would be weird to text back in the AM. I went to a basketball game at Western that next night and he was there and came over and sit with my friend and I and thought he was slick showing me his new phone and told me to text him again. So I did and we haven't stopped texting/talking since!

Our relationship

Since ‘13

We’ve always had a “see you on the weekend” type of relationship. In fall of ‘13 Anthony moved to Fresno to play football and I was still in high school so we obviously couldn’t see each other during the week days. On the weekends I was juggling softball and trying to go watch his football games. Thankfully my parents made it work for me. Once I graduated he moved back to Tulare and we both went to COS together and took classes together so we definitely saw each other more, really only so he could write my essays and do my math homework 😉 After I graduated from COS I decided to futher my education in Bakersfield and he was working nights. We were literally on opposire schedules for 2 years. It was not the easiest but we made it work. All that hard work we both put into our careers and education is paying off and I love that we have grown individually and as a couple.

The Proposal 🤍

April 4th, 2021

If any of you know me, which I hope you do! Lol. I’ve been nagging Anthony to get married for at least the past 3 years (dramatic I know). And he’s always come up with some type of story to get me to leave him alone for a little bit. The week before he proposed I was frustrated because HELLO! Our 8 year dating anniversary was coming up and I was getting annoyed, again. Fast forward to Easter, April 4th, we went to his families vineyard to celebrate Easter, which we’ve done almost every year we’ve been together. So we’re there and all of a sudden I see my parents roll up, I did tell them to come but they didn’t really respond. They’ve also came out before so it wasn’t that shocking they were there, just caught off guard. So Anthony tells me we are going to take a big family picture because his Papi Nacho was in town from Mexico and it was his birthday. Perfect. We’re all, and by all I mean like 40-50 of his closest family members, were getting ready for a picture. For some reason I had a feeling something was going to happen, but I had felt that way before so I shrugged it off. His cousin Betty had to run inside to “use the restroom” in the middle of our pictures and when she came out she had a basket that had some bride stuff in it. And then the ring was also in there. After she came to us, Anthony proposed and I said yes! Just 2 days shy of our 8 year anniversary! 🤍
