“Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Our story starts with two people who prayed and trusted God enough to wait. We’d both been walking with the Lord for years, attending the same church, and somehow our paths didn’t cross until the summer of 2022. I was 19 and Jonathan was 22 at the time. Jonathan had been at Metro Life Church’s Dadeland campus basically since birth, and I had been at the Doral campus since I was thirteen. Same church, but what felt like different worlds…..until August 21, 2022. That’s when we finally met at Pastor Steve and Mary’s Home, where Gaby, our youth minister, was hosting a youth leader celebration after serving at our annual youth camp in Jasper, Georgia. The second we locked eyes, it was kind of game over. I immediately thought he was the most handsome man I’d ever seen, and something about him just pulled me in. Even though we went to different campuses, God clearly wasn’t done. A few weeks later, on September 10, I got invited to a University of Miami football game by his cousin, Amanda Roomes. That day everything just clicked. We talked nonstop, laughed easily, and somehow it felt like we’d known each other forever. I was very much the golden retriever, excited, talkative, full of energy and he was the quiet, mysterious black cat. Which I would later find out was the perfect balance. The very next day, we both ended up at our church’s four day revival conference. I went in fully intending to focus on my own time with the Lord… and I did, but a little friend group formed and we spent basically the entire week together listening to amazing sermons, eating, talking, laughing, and getting to know each other on a deeper level. He shared his faith, his love for anime, and his calm, thoughtful way of seeing the world, and I was completely in denial at how on earth the man I had prayed for in such detail was standing right infornt of me. I casually texted him asking for an anime recommendation (smooth, I know), and from there, things just kept unfolding. By the end of that week, it was pretty obvious neither of us wanted to stay “just friends.” We went on our first date September 25, 2022, and by October 15, Jonathan officially asked me to be his girlfriend. Since then, we’ve walked through some of life’s hardest and sweetest moments together: Loss of loved ones, Medical Struggles, Graduations, and all the growing pains that come with figuring out adulthood side by side. Through everything, our faith has stayed at the center. We’re constantly grateful for the way God guided our steps and brought us together in His perfect timing. Our love story is living proof that He knew exactly what He was doing and we couldn’t be more thankful.
