The Proposal

12/24/18

Every year Nate and I exchange Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve. We have done this for years. I anxiously could not wait for Nate to open my gifts to him. When he informed me that wasn’t the case this year I was devistated. He told me that this year we were starting a new tradition of opening gifts on Christmas Day. We went to my dad’s Christmas Eve and on the way home he asks “Do you really want your present?” I practically screamed “Yes!” Once home, I asked him if he still needed to wrap my gift. He didn’t, responding that “It’s good to go.” I gave him the presents I had purchased for him. After he had opened them all he joked that “You probably won Christmas this year.” Success. I knew that he was pleased with what he had got. Nate told me to wait there on the couch, he had to go get my gift from his truck. I listened to him leave the house. Had a mental image of him walking to his truck and back to the front door. Listened as the front door opened, practically buzzing with excitement. He told me “Close your eyes.” As the front door shut I could hardly wait. Wondered what it could possibly be. A puppy? Yeah, right. As he approached closer to me Nate tells me “Cover your eyes and no peeking.” I respond telling him “I won’t.” Could he hurry up already? The hype had my foot twitching. I seriously couldn’t wait another second. “Okay, you can open your eyes.” As I do, kneeling before me is Nate holding a ring. Happiness. Joy. Surprise. Shock. I’m flooded with all the best emotions. Nate aaks “Will you marry me?” I jump up. Embrace him in a huge hug and kiss as he stays kneeling. My rock, my happy place. My forever best friend. He is all mine. Nate stands and asks “Is that a yes?” In all the excitement I had left him hanging. It could have only been a handful of seconds that had past after he had initially asked. But he seemed to be on the edge waiting for my response. “It’s a F**K YES!!”

The Proposal (continued)

Nate places the ring on my finger. It’s a perfect fit. We embrace, smothering one another in kisses and affection. I am the happiest person thanks to the man standing there in front of me. Knowing that he will continue to make me the happiest person for the rest of our forevers. I am overjoyed. Flooded with emotions. Thinking to myself; yes indeed, this year I definitely have in fact won Christmas.
