2013 John and Erica first met in their 10th-grade Chemistry class at Centennial High-school in Frisco, TX. They quickly became best friends and had lots of fun joking around in class. John will say that when he started sitting next to Erica during class, his grades began dropping immediately. However, hers improved. Over the years, their friendship grew and they became inseparable.

2019 John proposed on December 19th, 2019 on a horse-drawn carriage ride through Christmas lights in the neighborhood of Deer Field. Erica had thought they were going to just look at Christmas lights that night and go to their favorite restaurant. However, on the way to dinner, John pulled over into a church parking lot. In the church parking lot, there were a couple of horse-drawn carriages all waiting for their customers. John had made reservations for the two of them to tour the Christmas lights around the neighborhood in the most beautiful carriage. John popped the question (yay!) in the best moment during their carriage ride. After which they went to dinner at their favorite restaurant, and then back to a house full of all of their family waiting to celebrate with them. It was an awesome and sweet night spent celebrating their love and friendship!
