The Peabody is best known for a ducky custom from the 30s: the Manager returned from hunting in Arkansas, and his friends found it funny to leave their live duck decoys in the hotel fountain-- the guests loved it. Now, the hotel's live flat-footed ambassadors are housed in the "Duck Palace" on the roof. Every day at 11 a.m., (and reversed at 5 pm) they are led by the Duckmaster down to the marble fountain in the Grand Lobby. The ducks march down a red carpet through crowds of admiring spectators.
