How this thing happened

What do a rubber chicken, body paint, and a bear suit all have in common? I have no idea, but you would likely find them all present on any one night of competitive karaoke in DC and Northern Virginia. Why do I bring up competitive karaoke you say? Well, competitive karaoke is how Theresa and Kevin even knew each other existed. It was a crazy time. So much choreography. But the truth, dear reader, is that the most simple way to sum up how this crazy story started is to say that while they met through karaoke, music overall brought them together. In February 2018, a simple concert turned into two people not realizing that they were starting something pretty awesome. A mutual love of a musician prompted a friendly concert invite that Theresa insisted was NOT a date, and Kevin says was just a group of friends hanging out. But apparently they were both very foolish, and they had many more definitely dates after that. Fast forward to July 2018: Kevin almost ruined the whole thing when he moved to Denver, Colorado like a doofus. There was an epic cross country trip, many laughs, and in the end some tears. But they both knew it was time to say goodbye to each other. Little did they know it was not that easy, and, after some maneuvering, Theresa also moved to Colorado three months later, like a doofus. The transition to becoming full on mountain people had begun.

Colorado

Once Theresa made it out to Colorado, it was on. The next few years were filled with both mountain and city exploration. They adopted a sweet and silly dog. They scoured the corners of the state looking for the best hiking trails and cabin retreats. They wandered the streets of Denver seeking out excellent food, creative cocktails, karaoke bars and live music. Theresa even learned how to ski! And snowboard! Sort of! One particular mountain location became a favorite. Past multiple ranches, a windy dirt road ends in one of Theresa and Kevin's favorite spots in the world. A small lodge sitting on many acres of woodsy property became a peaceful weekend away in July 2020, and again that November. On the November trip, Kevin knew that this was the spot. He spent the next 4 months planning a getaway and plotting a secret mission.

The Proposal

Navigating social distancing and work from home, Kevin somehow chose a ring design and arranged for a Massachusetts jeweler to make the ring using his mother's diamond. These plans required clandestine phone calls from the house they were both working from, as well as more than one call to the jeweler from the top of a mountain. The ring arrived just days before Kevin and Theresa were due to leave for a week at the Lodge. Since the proposal was still a secret, Theresa had to be on board with the trip without knowing anything of the covert mission. Kevin had somehow convinced Theresa it made sense to rent out the entire building, "for solitude on our vacation." On their first hike of the week, Kevin insisted on going on one particular trail, even though they were sinking multiple feet into the snow with each step. Theresa went along with it, shaking her head a bit. Then they hit "their table", a large wire spool with a beautiful view. Kevin knelt down to take a video of the falling snow... but it was a ruse! He took the ring from his pocket and asked Theresa to be his forever adventure partner. After a few stunned "Seriously?!" bursts, Theresa enthusiastically accepted the ring, and they happily traipsed together through the snow.
