How He Proposed

Lyss' Perspective

After work one night, Ry planned a date night for us at our favorite restaurant Lolita's in Seaport. Although I knew we were getting engaged soon and was super on edge waiting for it to happen, I didn't think anything of a Lolita's date night because I pretty much ask to go there once a week ( they have the best chips and salsa, diet coke, and COTTON CANDY for dessert like are you kidding could a place scream my name more?! If you're ever in Boston you must go!!!!) Anyways... Ry suggested we go a little early to walk around the pretty docks by the restaurant. The dock has one of my favorite views of the city and that day was gloomy and foggy which made the clouds settle between the buildings and made the prettiest view! We were just talking and joking around when he grabbed my face and kissed me and said, "I love you so much and I always will" and then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!! I've seen so many pictures of girls crying when they get proposed to and honestly I always thought that would be me, but the only thing that went through my head when he asked was, "DUH." Since the beginning, everything with Ry has felt so natural, like it was just so obvious that we were meant to be together and in that moment, rather than feeling shocked or overwhelmed, I just felt so calm and peaceful. Afterwards, we went back to the house, which he had decorated with peonies and candles everywhere, and had my favorite meal ever from Cheesecake Factory brought to the house! Haha he knows me so well. We are so so excited and grateful that we get each other forever and just can't wait to celebrate our happiest day yet with all of our favorite people!

How We Met

Ryan's Perspective

I was talking to my friends Eric and Courtney one day pretty randomly, and Court mentioned that she had a girl she wanted to set me up with. Setups are almost never good, but Court is a high quality lady, so I knew a setup from her could have some real potential. It turns out she had this long lost cousin named Alyssa, and she showed me her Instagram. I was pretty intrigued: she seemed too funny for how beautiful she was and too beautiful for how funny she was. I followed her on Instagram, and we started messaging, or I "slid into her DMs" as the kids are saying these days. I am good at writing funny/cute messages on social media, so I said some pretty funny and cute stuff, and she was definitely into it. I was going to be in Utah in a couple of weeks, so we planned to go out when I was there. From texting her I could tell that she was really fun, and we seemed to like each other, so we decided to spend the whole day together instead of just a short date. We met up and went to the zoo, the mall, temple square, got some fro-yo, stopped at my friend's grandparent's house, and drove around for a bunch of hours. It wasn't like some intense romantic comedy "Can't eat, can't sleep, reach-for-the-stars, over-the-fence, World Series" type thing when we met, but it just felt really fun and natural and comfortable. I went back to Boston and I Facetimed her one day, and then the next day, and again the next day, then in no time at all (about 1 year), I tricked her into moving to Boston. Dating Lyss has been the most natural and obvious thing for me. In the past, I had often felt pretty stressed about being in a relationship and often spent a lot of time analyzing whether or not things were a good fit, but with her it always just felt like the most natural thing to do. Which is pretty cute if you ask me. And now we are getting married, and our love burns with the intensity of a thousand splendid suns. So take that haters.
