Vincent & I met at a summer job we both happened upon in 2014. We talked very briefly that summer, usually each time starting by me calling him "Kevin." In 2015, I was studying for a summer anatomy course while at the hostess stand, and Vincent came up to make fun of me because I kept pointing to my head. I just turned 21 in the winter, and wanted to make new friends, so I asked Vince if he was old enough, we got a drink with one of our co-workers, and then we proceeded to talk for the rest of the night.. and for the next 5 years!
June 6th, we planned on celebrating our 5 year anniversary at our usual spot at 410 Bank Street in Cape May. Because of COVID, this was not very possible. Vincent had suggested doing a picnic on the beach near sunset, and of course I said yes because I'm a sucker for good lighting! Little did I know, we would not be having a picnic. He pulled out the picnic blanket, and then went behind my chair and asked me if I dropped something in the sand. Of course, I objected and said "I've been sitting down for like 5 minutes, it's hot, and I haven't moved! How would I put something behind my chair?!" He laughed and told me just to look because the shell looked cool. I picked it up, and inside the shell it said 6/6/20; Will You Marry Me? Of course I cried like a baby and said yes! The back story to the shell. From the time we went on our first hike, we always have collected a rock from the place and put the date and the location of where we were so we could keep it and put it in our future home. The shell itself was from my mom, who passed away in 2018 after a 3 year long battle of lung/brain cancer. She gave it to him and told him to use it for this exact reason, and it made it all the more special to know that even though she could not be with us in person, she still had a special hand in the day!
