Christian and Haley met unexpectedly at a local summer concert in San Ramon, CA. Christian arrived with his majestic golden retriever, Penny, who chose a spot right in front of Haley and her family. As soon as Christian sat down, Haley's mom, Merrill, insisted that Haley talk to him. After some convincing — including Merrill tossing a ball at Christian for Haley to retrieve — Haley finally mustered the courage to start a conversation. At first, their exchange was a bit awkward, ending with Christian giving Penny to Haley so they could join her family in the shade. Eventually, Penny grew tired of Haley telling her she was "going to be her new mom" and dragged herself back to Christian. Christian then invited Haley to sit with him, and they spent the rest of the evening chatting. Funnily enough, despite the immediate connection, Christian didn’t ask for Haley’s phone number. Recognizing him as her knight in shining armor, Haley refused to let the moment slip away. Not only did she give him her number, but she also set up a date for that night.
