The Soundtrack of Us

Seven years, seven songs

Our story begins November 2017 in Tampa, FL with a first date at Carrabba's. There's been a lot more date nights in the past seven years since - concerts, beach days, Disney days, movie nights - but it's the life we get to do together in the moments in between that I've come to cherish the most. The little things, like riding in the car, talking and listening to music. So much quality time has been spent like this, from roadtrips to trips to the grocery store, with our soundtrack always playing in the background. We want to share a little bit of that soundtrack with you! Seven songs that have a memory attached, for seven years together. We might be biased, but we think it's kind of the best playlist ever. The City - the 1975 In the beginning, there was a lot of us trying to impress each other with our music taste. He showed me 90's country and early 2000's rap, and I showed him Walk the Moon and the 1975 (and Taylor Swift). It made me so happy when Dylan told me added a "the 1975" station on his Pandora. "The City" was definitely a thumbs up from both of us. We Are the Kids - Walk the Moon As previously mentioned, Dylan is a Pandora guy - but I'm a Spotify girl. So it was a big step in the relationship when the "dylan" playlist was born! "We Are the Kids" was the first song that made the cut. In February 2019, we got to hear it live in concert at Jannus Landing in St. Pete. Always Remember Us This Way - Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper Valentine's Day in 2020, I came home from work to Dylan standing in my room with flowers, a big smile, and this song playing in the background. We slow danced until the song was over, and I cried the whole time. Such a sweet and simple gesture that made me feel so special. I still tear up thinking about it to this day! Nobody - Mitski In 2021, we took our first big road trip together up to North Carolina for Thanksgiving. It was such a special trip, me getting to see places where Dylan spent part of his childhood, and him getting to see Quiet Rest and the Nantahala River for the first time. I remember playing "Nobody" in the car on our way down to NOC one day and Dylan said, "this song makes me feel like I'm going crazy... but in a good way." It's A Great Day To Be Alive - Travis Tritt The first time I heard the lyrics "I got the rice cookin' in the microwave," I had to laugh. Now, I can't help but sing along. This song is usually in the lineup when Dylan is cooking dinner, along with some Shania Twain, Toby Keith, and Alan Jackson. Far Behind - Candlebox In Season 3, Episode 4 of the show "Eastbound and Down," there's an iconic scene where Danny McBride's character gives a speech at a funeral with "Far Behind" playing in the background. Somehow, the song accidentally ended up in my playlist? Okay, it wasn't accidentally... we both un-ironically love this song now. "Don't bury him yet!" You're Still the One - Shania Twain Dylan has been a Shania fan for a long time, but this song has become one of my favorites in the last year. "We mighta took the long way, we knew we'd get there someday," hits different now that we've been together for almost seven years - he's still the one I want! Check out our playlist, "The Soundtrack of Us" on Spotify! Including the seven songs above, and a few more of our favorites. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2SRtFpqzfnyzjkFAYHpj90?si=VCceRtqyQr-6DY9xsyjLXA&pi=u-ktqB70ucQE-5
