Austin and I went to high school together and we were actually really close friends. It was hard to keep in touch after high school as we both went separate ways. Austin asked me on our first date when I was a junior in college. He wasn’t the immature boy I once knew. He had a great job that he loved, he was planning on buying his dad’s house, and he was a DAD himself. I didn’t think it was possible for me to love a little boy that fast, but from the first time I met Gatlin, I was attached. We have a special bond that will last forever. When Austin and I began dating, we just knew it was right. God had a hand in this and I will be forever grateful that our paths crossed again. We continued dating for a year until we got engaged in May 2019.
I mentioned to Austin that I didn't want to get married until I finished my Bachelor's degree. I graduated on May 12 and he proposed on May 19! Austin took me to Georgia to visit his mom and stepdad that weekend. We planned on taking family pictures while we were there so his mom and I spent a whole morning getting spoiled at a salon. We were just finishing up pictures and Austin and I were standing on the bridge when the photographer told us to “do whatever pose you want.” I was sort of facing the opposite way of Austin and I felt him kneel down a bit. When I turned around to fully look what he was doing, he was on one knee with the ring! I have to admit that when he said my name and popped the question, it all became a blur. It was seriously perfect – a proposal from my dreams and so carefully thought out. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel our wedding 3 weeks before the wedding date. We were able to have a small, intimate ceremony with our immediate family this June. This included walking down the aisle with my dad, vow exchange, cake cutting, and even dancing. There was a huge gap missing without our friends and family, especially Gatlin, so we will still be having our big reception with the real wedding dress in 2021!
