Maria’s Version of Our Story

12/31/18

I met Kyle through work, I creeped his facebook attempting to see if he had a girlfriend or wife before I made my move. But of course, he’s a cop and had hardly any information on there. I eventually said “screw it” and sent off my friend request to him on facebook, but it took him a few days to accept. I waited a week or so before I made up some excuse to message him about work. After a long two to three weeks of facebook messaging and playing hard to get he FINALLY gave me his phone number, but I returned the favor and waited a couple days before I decided to text him. We went on our first date January 2019 which was also one of the coldest days that year, but Kyle still sweat through both of his shirts because he was so nervous. He made a good first impression by meeting me at the front door and opening the car door for me. At the end of our date, when Kyle dropped me off, "My Maria" by Brooks and Dunn came on the radio....you could say we are meant to be since Kyle had never heard that song before.

Kyle’s Version of Our Story

Maria and I met through work. I know I know, another stereotypical cop-dispatcher relationship. What could go wrong, right? Boy, was I surprised! We first started messaging over the computers at work while Maria was training. I remember it like it was yesterday. I’d always have to give her a hard time because she always sounded like she was standing in the middle of a hurricane whenever she talked on the radio. Come to find out, her bosses gave her a communications headset they pulled straight out of a Crackerjack box. I always looked forward to going into work and being able to chat with Maria. After a while, I got a friend request on Facebook from some girl named Maria Mize. Up to that point, I didn’t actually know Maria by name. I only knew her by her computer credentials – MM1524. I remember seeing the friend request and thinking, “I don’t know who this is, but she’s pretty cute.” Unfortunately, I’m a cop and can’t just accept random friend requests, so I hit the ignore button. After a few days, I decided to do some Facebook creeping and figured out who this Maria girl was. Friend request accepted! Several weeks later, Maria and I began talking outside of work through social media. After playing hard to get for a few weeks, I think Maria was relieved when I finally gave her my phone number. In fact, she was so relieved that she didn’t text me back for a few days. I got a taste of my own medicine, I suppose. By the end of January 2019, I finally decided to make my move and asked Maria out on a date. We somehow managed to find a night that we were both off from work – January 29th. You couldn’t have asked for a better day for a date. Clear skies, 50 mph wind gusts and a nice, warm, -15 degree temperature. Great start, right? Despite the absolutely frigid temperatures, we had a great time on our first date and learned a lot about each other. Maria managed to leave a great impression and I knew there would be more date nights to come. After a successful first date, I dropped Maria off at her house and, I shit you not, “My Maria” by Brooks and Dunn started playing on the radio. If that wasn’t a sign, I don’t know what is

The Proposal

5/23/22 Zion National Park

We had just started our hike that day when Kyle saw the perfect spot to have lunch, so we went off the path ate our lunch and then took some pictures where Kyle then proposed. It was secluded and quiet with no one around. Just how I wanted it!
