One fateful spring day on Marquam Hill in Portland, Sean stopped to enjoy a cup of coffee on OHSU’s campus. Being that it was the onset of the lunch rush, Sam’s Café was filled to the brim within a few minutes leaving no room for late comers. At least it was full until a brew-ti-ful woman with bleached tipped hair walked in to the café to purchase her fourth cup of joe. Sean, being ever aware of his presence in taking up a table for two, turned his volunteer badge around so that only the blank side was visible and invited the soon-to-be love of his life to take the available chair. Upon settling into her new seat, Chelsea could sense a degree of nervousness and struck up conversation. The couple hit it off, both allowing each other the opportunity to express themselves. Realizing that Chelsea still did not know Sean was merely a volunteer, he quickly seized the chance and stated, "you know, I bet you could help me with a book I'm writing." Naive Chelsea mustered a quiet, "sure?" and that's when it happened. When the volunteer at the coffee shop used the best pick-up line of all-time, "well, it's a phone book and it needs your number." He got her number, she tried to play it cool, and the rest is history.
In a race against the sun, Chelsea and Sean set off to Prescott, Arizona for a 4th of July camping trip. Making it to an open campsite with minutes to spare before sunset, the two lovebirds set their eyes on a hill directly behind their tent where they could catch the last few rays. Unbeknownst to Chelsea, Sean broke out a heart-felt poem from his pocket and read it off to her with the reaction of laughter and tears before presenting her with a ring and asking, “will you marry me?” Thankfully, Chelsea took the ring, stared at it for a few minutes, called her mother, and then remembered to say yes.
