Our Story

Neither of us can remember how or when we met. But there is a group photo from September 2007 with both of us in it, so before then. We finally spoke to one another after high school graduation, bonding over Words with Friends and The Last Airbender. This lead to a few weeks playing euchre at our local Wendy's, loitering at Meijer, and making out in various cars and basements until parting ways for college and not speaking for five years. In Summer 2016, Evan sent Morgan an article via Facebook with no accompanying message, titled: "Ruth Bader Ginsburg Had the Perfect Reaction to Her Praying Mantis Namesake." We have talked every day since. After almost two months of Facetime and phone calls, Morgan flew to Michigan where Evan picked her up at the airport. She had to sprint through LaGuardia barefoot to make her flight, and it was disgusting, but worth it. We went on our first actual date to Silver Lake and Morgan asked if Evan wanted to be "exclusive". Evan responded in a mocking tone, "Oh, you wanna be like boyfriend and girlfriend?" Morgan tried to rescind the offer, but Evan ignored her. One week before Evan's first visit to New York, Morgan texted she loved him and tried to take it back when he didn't respond seven minutes later (at 3 am). Evan ignored her and said he loved her too. During Evan's visit, he suggested they move in together. In hindsight, it was presumptuous, but it all worked out. In June 2017, we moved into a tiny apartment in Brooklyn and valiantly faced a rat, mice, cockroaches, and an hour-long plague of flies. We also danced to the live music from the bar across the street through our open window, and spent a lot of time on the couch when we were too broke to go outside. After a year of life together in New York, Morgan decided to go to law school, and Evan kindly agreed to join her in the cornfields of Champaign, Illinois. We miss being in a city, but we adopted our sweet rapscallion named Phillip, and we love him very much.

The Proposal

After a few very busy months, we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving in Champaign. Morgan made an intricate spreadsheet scheduling all aspects of the day, printed it out, and put it on the fridge. It did not include a time slot for a proposal. Despite this, Evan proposed before they sat down for dinner. Morgan said yes, and we immediately dropped the ring. Then we ate lots of food and watched all the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It was perfect.
