Our Story

How we met

Crissy was in Virginia for the summer doing an externship at a local hospital when it all began. About 3 weeks before our first date, Crissy and I actually met online. Yes, we are a Tinder success story! I talked her into meeting me for a fishing trip. Our first date started at Ocean's East a bait and tackle shop in Virginia Beach. She must of liked what she saw because I convinced her to follow me to Rudy Inlet where we fished for Flounder and actually caught one but, not a keeper. After a day of fishing, we didn't want the date to end so we walked to what is now one of our favorite restaurants, Watermen's. It was super busy that night so we wondered back down to the beach while we waited. I challenged her to sand building contest, she let me win (but, my sand gator was good). This was the night Crissy fell in love with Lemon Bourbon Crushes and Buffalo tuna bites at Waterman's and our adventure together began. For the rest of that summer we were inseparable. I took her to meet my mom in Alabama a few weeks later...and here we are now so needless to say, that went well. After that summer, Crissy moved back to North Carolina where she finished Nursing school, we survived 19 months worth of deployments and have made many wonderful memories together.

The Proposal

How Lucas popped the question...

So I had absolutely no clue what so ever Lucas had been scheming his proposal for a few months. Turns out he was very traditional by asking my Dad ahead of time.. and he was the only one who knew beforehand. Lucas and I went home to my parents house in North Carolina for Thanksgiving 2019. My dad, Lucas and I all went hunting together Thanksgiving morning. I had an uneventful morning but, my dad and Lucas did not. Dad saw a deer that he couldn't get a shot at so told Lucas he had one headed his way to get ready for him. It was about time for us to head out the woods when Lucas sent me a text saying he got one but, he thinks he got a bad shot. Now, we were in a hurry! We had to take care of this deer and still get to Thanksgiving dinner at Aunt Lynn's house on time. So we called mom and Caraline to come help us track it. As we waited I noticed Lucas was shaking... he told me he had buck fever! After mom and Caraline showed up we walked back to where Lucas was hunting to start tracking this deer. Lucas was acting weird. I really thought he was just so excited about this deer though... He began pointing out where the deer was when he shot it, which way it ran and then he dropped to one knee. This is when I realized he had cleared out a space in the leaves and wrote with sticks "Will you" and he popped the question! I had no idea what to do or say. I just could not believe it was actually happening! I think I made him a little nervous with my loss of words. I said "yes" of course. In my head I was thinking.. "I look like a camouflage marshmallow right now". No matter how I looked though, it was perfect. I could tell this was all Lucas's plan!
