Kelly and Kevin's story begins much like others...they met in school and after years of friendship, realized they were meant to build the rest of their lives with each other. However, what differentiates their story from most is theirs began in middle school. Though Kelly may have had a crush on Kevin then (and his mom could see it), they only remained friends. After high school, both pursued their own journeys by going to rival schools and reconnected after college in 2016. Unfortunately, timing was not in the cards for them and once again, they continued to chase their individual goals and Kevin eventually moved up to Oregon. During Thanksgiving 2019, Kevin went back to Phoenix to see family where the both of them casually made plans for dinner. Unbeknownst to them, this would be the very start of the rest of their lives together. They kept in touch through the holidays and as fate would have it, the pandemic hit a few months later. Kevin temporarily moved back to Phoenix and asked Kelly on a yoga date in March 2020. By that May, Kevin realized he loved Kelly and made their relationship official, and Kelly moved up to Portland with him the following year. After Kelly dropped so many hints of marriage and sending her and Kevin's sisters pictures of engagement rings, there were no signs a proposal was occurring anytime soon. By 2023, she gave up thinking about it and told herself it was going to happen whenever it would happen. Coincidentally, Kelly's aunt was turning 80 in November 2023 and a family reunion was being planned in Hong Kong for then. Having talked with Kevin for years about Hong Kong, they booked their tickets and Kelly was excited to finally show him this city that was the most special place to her. On November 17, 2023, Kevin was acting super out-of-character and a boat tour around Hong Kong's harbour was scheduled for that day with Kelly and her family. Surely, one by one of Kelly's family conveniently was unable to make the tour except her brother (who, also conveniently, works as a commercial photographer and videographer). Dispelling the feeling a proposal was going to happen then, Kelly chose to believe this was just another adventure as Kevin had talked about this boat tour months prior. As the two of them finally made their way to the deck, Kevin dropped down on one knee and popped the question. It all suddenly made sense why he was so nervous and acting weird all day, though Kelly was still in disbelief as her initial response was, "Is this really happening?!" Kelly of course said "Yes," the easiest decision she has ever made and one she has been waiting for since 2016. From meeting in middle school to this new exciting chapter in their lives, one phrase that continues to be apparent is, "You were right here all along." They cannot wait to be married and excited for all of you to be a part of their special day.
