They wandered through Venice's winding canals, took selfies with the Colosseum in Rome, and wandered through Pompeii in Naples. Not to mention, the Amalfi Coast and the Dolomites were just beautiful backdrops to the real star of the show - their budding romance. But the climax of their love story (literally and figuratively) happened in Rome. There they sat on a quaint set of stairs at sunset, sipping from a 5 euro bottle of wine, and in a moment of unspoken agreement, they silently agreed that they were head over heels in love. Kenzi returned to Boston with Joey, and their love journey continued on American soil. But the world had other plans. In 2017, Kenzi was drafted to play professional futbol in France. Joey understood her dreams, and Kenzi told him he didn't have to wait for her. But who was she kidding? Joey wasn't going anywhere. For two long years, they navigated the trials and tribulations of a long-distance relationship, all through FaceTime chats and a few strategically timed visits to the City of Love and neighboring countries. Kenzi came home for Christmas and a couple of summer weeks each year, but the rest of the time, their screens were their connection to each other. France played the role of a sneaky matchmaker, pulling them apart physically but binding their hearts. Every reunion was more heartwarming, each hug, touch, and kiss meant more than before.
