It all started with a Spartan Race. Kim was training with a group at the gym when she met one of Mike’s close friends, Jared. Afterward, Jared called Mike, who was living in Pueblo at the time, and said, “Hey, there’s this girl I think you should meet.” Mike sent Kim a Facebook friend request. At the time, Kim was accepting everyone, thinking, “Maybe they want a photoshoot.” She gave Mike's profile a quick look and thought, “He does Spartan races? That’s cool.” Not long after, Mike messaged Kim: “Hi, my name is Mike Borjas. I saw this TED Talk and thought it might interest you based on things you share.” Kim thanked him and kinda blew him off. But then, 30 days later, something nudged her to message him back. So, she messaged him back, he left her on read for 24 hours, she thought she missed her opportunity, and then he finally replied. We started texting, and on November 8th, 2018, we had our first phone call, a seven-hour conversation that went into the early morning. We’ve considered that our anniversary ever since. We spent the first couple of years in a long-distance relationship before Mike moved to Monte Vista in April 2020. That summer, we bought a house together and have since built a life side by side working together as wedding photographers and videographers, traveling to eleven different countries, and about to visit another two when eloping in Norway May 6th with a stop in Sweden first. After witnessing countless wedding days through our lenses, it feels pretty special to finally be planning our own.
