August 2012 10 years ago at the end of summer break, Katie and Gonza attended a "Getty." They had been friendly that summer, messaging on FB occasionally, boating + cloobing with friends at Gavana, but it wasn't until the night before heading back for their 2nd year of college, that they shared a short, flirty convo and one kiss over a late night bowl of mac and cheese. October 2012 Gonza, clearly in love after that kiss, takes the leap + invites her on an overnight weekend in Vermont, where Gonza was attending college. Katie hops on a plane from Washington DC. where she was attending school- to Burlington airport, welcomed by Gonza waiting for her at the bottom of the arrivals escalator with a bouquet of roses. They arrive to Gonza’s dorm room, shared between the best man (Orlando Rivas), and Groomsman (Nicco Roque.) The trip would be short and sweet, so In an effort to show Katie the best parts of Burlington, Gonza and the boys wined and dined her at the nearest Dunkin Donuts where they would share breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner. The boys were very proud to drive her around in their newest investment- a Forest Green 1992 GMC Vandura 350, with interior straight out of an Austin Powers movie, souped up with neon orange furry walls and shag carpet stapled to the entire inside of the van, two working seat belts for 12 passengers, and bench seats upholstered in University of Miami fabric swatches. If there were ever a time for her to cut the trip short- riding in this van would have been it. The following morning, Hurricane Sandy declares a state of emergency in the northeast. What was meant to be a 2 day stay, abruptly turned into a week and a half long trip as AA cancels all flights in and out of DC and Vermont. Katie overstays her welcome for another week. To this day, Gonza is convinced Katie will never visit Vermont again. January 2013 Katie and Gonza become Facebook OFFICIAL January 2015 Katie studies abroad in Barcelona, Spain-continuing their long distance romance , both learning how to keep their love growing with a 6 hour time difference, and miles apart. May 2015- July 2021 College graduations, new jobs, and finally being able to live in the same city as one another, moving in to their first apartment together, celebrating milestones, countless birthdays, anniversaries, and soccer injuries. August 7, 2021 Gonza proposes to Katie on Key Biscayne Beach on the most perfect night of their lives, surrounded by their family and close friends. January 2023 Katie and Gonza Celebrate their 10 year dating anniversary March 25, 2023 A decade later, these college kids are tying the knot! See you at the altar ….
